From the Arêches Church, go up to the top of the village, to the left of the Tabac Presse and discover the traditional Arêches buildings and the wash house. Pass in front of the last farm in the heart of the village and take the small Ravines path to the hamlet of Envers. On the return, you will follow the Poncellamont torrent which arrives straight from the St Guérin dam.
Les Envers is the name of the hamlet located at the foot of the north-facing slope overlooking Arêches. The word "envers" (ubac), as opposed to "place" (adret), designates a slope facing north.
At the foot of the Envers slope, on the opposite slope, were exploited,
until 1950, veins of “lean” anthracite. Four galleries - now condemned for security reasons - were dug to
exploitation. One of them opened just opposite, at table level
and benches. The ore crossed the stream in carts on a
wooden bridge. The exploitation of this coal had its interest during
the Second World War then was very quickly abandoned.
